MALAYSIA 2014, PART 2 (FOOD!)

One of the highlights of our stay in KL was the FOOD!!!!!!! We love Malaysian food so so much 🙂 and it’s very very cheap too! With Malaysia, it’s just as cheap as Thailand, you don’t spend much on taxi or food and you get such great deals 🙂

We were walking around looking for a currency exchange and we found one near Sephora! and then we saw these cute ice cream bars and decided to try some since it was a pretty humid and warm day 😀

My friend got the Cendol (Malaysian dessert) flavour and I got the Green tea 🙂 they tasted refreshing! it’s different to Western ice creams, these are more thick and milky in texture haha I think they were around $1-2AUD!

Near the ice cream vendor, was an escalator that takes you downstairs into an underground food court!!!! 😀 We did some shopping and decided to go for lunch there!

I noticed this sign and the Kuey Teow looked so yummy!!!! and look at the price! it’s soooo cheap haha

You can watch the chefs cook your meal and they do it very quickly too so you won’t have to wait long 🙂 A lot of the food counters in here all cook fast so I guess you can call this “fast food” 😛

And voila! the finished Kuey Teow 🙂 It’s full of flavour and it contains flat rice noodles, bean sprouts, shrimps, baby clams? or something similar because it tasted very fishy haha, stir fried with egg and chives.

My girlfriend got rice with curry 🙂 the curry was slightly spicy and she’s vegetarian so she got crackers, vegetables and tofu with it 🙂

20140205_153246

For dessert after our meal we had to try Malaysian Cendol 🙂 it’s basically shaved ice topped with green jelly, red bean and a sweet syrup which I don’t know what is in it haha but it was refreshing and sweet 🙂

After our meals we walked passed the Nanyang Ten coffee shop and decided to try these rice cakes! They are flavoured which included green tea, coconut, and plain ones 🙂 They tasted alright, but I’ve had better haha

20140205_155213

I also walked passed a bakery and had to get their green tea tart!!!! I also got the original egg tart and a Portuguese tart 🙂 they were very tasty and the green tea flavour is on point! Since our bellies were full, we continued with more shopping and exploring around the city 🙂

20140205_225114

As night came upon us, we were hungry again haha!!!!! All that walking sure burns off food quickly 😛 We decided we wanted to eat at a local and simple street restaurant so we found one near Sephora and the mall!! Since there is a heavy influence of Indian culture in Malaysia, we had decided to have Indian food that night!

20140205_224454

We ordered a large naan with 2 choices of curry dips! This was yummy!! very light, fluffy, soft and the curries tasted nothing like the curry you get in the Western world haha

20140205_224953

My girlfriend so badly wanted to drink from a plastic bag haha!! because it’s common for most local restaurants to serve drinks in a plastic bag such as coke, lemonade or the milk tea we have here 🙂 It was filled with ice and tied up with a string, very refreshing! and we didn’t get sick from it if you are wondering haha

20140205_224440

You can’t not go Malaysia and not have Nasi Lemak!!!! This is a simple one compared to the ones you get in other restaurants haha but nonetheless it was tasty and full of flavour! You have boiled rice with a fried egg on top, garnished with dried anchovies, cucumber, roasted peanuts and sauce 🙂

20140205_224445

We ordered fried chicken and this tastes so soooo similar to KFC chicken!!!!! mind blown haha

20140205_225038

Now this was one of my favourites! Chicken Tikka with mint sauce! the chicken was juicy and soft and the mint sauce is nothing like the ones I had back in Australia!!! their mint sauce here is fresh, more green because it contained more mint and wasn’t diluted 🙂

20140205_225041

We had to have naan bread too!!! We chosen garlic naans with 3 curries to dip in 🙂 We dipped them in the vegetable curries and mint sauce provided!

20140205_224601

This final dish was the death of me!!!! I had no idea there were big slices of green chilli in this fried noodle because it camouflaged as lettuce haha and when I took a big bite of it, I literally was in tears!!! Since I never eat spicy food, my chilli tolerance is ZERO! My mouth was on fire and my lips were bruised haha my friends and I had a good laugh and it took me a good 15mins until I didn’t feel the burn no more. Since being in Malaysia and Singapore, most of the locals love eating spicy and chilli food so if you can’t eat chilli like me, make sure you tell your chef or ask before ordering!

20140206_133623

For the next day we shopped some more and we went back into the underground food court for lunch! We just love this place too much haha I have ordered Malaysian laksa with fish cake, tofu, baby clam? and some beans. I loveeeeee Malaysian laksa!!! It is so rich in flavour and one of the best types of comfort food 🙂

20140206_134312

I forgot what this was called but my girlfriend ordered a different noodle soup! the broth was slightly clear with a bit of chilli, egg, fish cake, vegetables and beef 🙂

20140206_134318

My other girlfriend saw how much I enjoyed the Kuey Teow the other day and decided to get one herself to try! This time it contained some chinese sausage and without the baby clams 🙂

20140205_195948

Again like always we have to have dessert after our meal 🙂 But first we decided to go into some shopping malls to explore and we stumbled across this waffle cafe!!!!! They made these unique and interesting waffles so we had to try them haha this one is a chocolate chip waffle with cheese!!!! the flavour combination was strange but it worked! the chocolate is sweet and the cheese has a sharp flavour.

20140205_200012

Of course we had to get a green tea flavoured one haha this one also contained chocolate chips and the flavour combo is tasty!

20140205_195940

This one is my favourite because it’s caramel waffle with sweet corn haha!!!! very interesting combination, sweet and the corn surprisingly isn’t burnt but still remained soft 🙂

20140206_162608

Sadly we had to leave during the evening so our last bite before we took off was at the mall we decided to take a break from walking and have some cake pops!!!!!! 😀 love them so much haha we have the green tea flavoured ones and my girlfriend got the chocolate mud 🙂 Since we only stayed in Malaysia for 2 days we didn’t get to try more food they have to offer!

My next post will be my last post on Malaysia which will feature my beauty haul from Sephora hehe so keep an eye out 😉
