So I loved my first visit to Devon (http://www.joeydevivre.com/devon-cafe) so much that I had to make a return with my girlfriend! 😛 I ordered a previous favourite plus 2 new dishes I have not tried before hehe. I recommend this to everyone who loves a good brunch! One of my favourite cafes around the Central area in Sydney!
We have ordered Aphrodite’s Bowl and Breakfast with the Sakuma’s first 🙂 Then we ordered a dessert dish after 🙂
Let’s start with a new dish I haven’t tried, Aphrodite’s Bowl 🙂 It is a warm rose water rice pudding, with honeycomb, fig purée, pistachios and decorated with rose petals. A very romantic presentation which I love!
This is perfect for those cold Winter days! When we took a bite, we were enveloped by it’s warm and soft, melt-in-your-mouth texture 😛 Definitely coming back for this. I love the contrast of textures from the soft rice pudding and crunchy pistachios. The rosewater flavour is light but at just the right amount that it does not over power the other ingredients. I love the rose scent too 🙂
Mega close up hehe! The colours in this bowl is so beautiful! It reminds me of Spring 🙂 I definitely did not want to mix it all up haha. I would say this dish isn’t so sweet so it’s perfect for everyone!
Then of course, we had to order Breakfast with the Sakuma’s again! It is a crowd favourite, with miso-grilled king salmon, smoked eel croquette and 63-degree egg. This never disappoints and it’s made exactly the same as my last visit so it’s consistent 🙂
Again, I love the contrast of flavours and texture this dish brings 🙂 The salmon is cooked to perfection, not too raw or over cooked so you can enjoy the soft texture when you take a bite! The croquette and soft, runny egg makes a great companion to the generous serving of salmon!
Mega close up again 🙂 Love the sprinkles os sesame seeds and seaweed!
Normally you get a dollop of mayonnaise on the plate, but my girlfriend can’t eat that so it was served on a separate plate so it’s not mixed in 🙂
The gang together 🙂 Now it’s time for dessert! Our favourite part hehe.
We decided to order the Little Lost Bread triple chocolate style 🙂 This is perfect for all you banana and choc lovers! They work so well together.
This includes: Brioche French toast, triple choc, caramelised banana, and salted caramel ice cream which I think is a fabulous pairing with the banana and chocolate 😛
The brioche is perfect, crunchy on the outside but soft and warm on the inside 🙂 Again, the texture of soft, sweet, salty, warm and cold work so well! Salted Caramel flavours always goes well with Chocolate 😛 The slice of banana is soft, warm and is lightly grilled on the top! There is also enough chocolate sauce to slather your portions on hehe.
Plus theres a sprinkle of salt on top of the ice cream. As they say, adding a bit of salt can enhance the chocolate flavour! But I guess they did it to symbolise it is a Salted Caramel ice cream haha. Overall, another fantastic brunching experience at Devon and I will be coming again to try out other seasonal or new dishes 🙂
